S.R. 1 Peter 1:1-12
Introduction
- It is a privilege to stand before you and express the great relationship we enjoy in God through Christ
- We are family because of our connection through a common Father.
Outline
- We have a Living Hope (1 Peter 1:1-12)
- Hope based upon the fact that we were chosen by God in and through Jesus.
- Based upon this fact we have an Inheritance. (1 Peter 1:4-5)
- This hope brings joy even in the midst of trials. (1 Peter 1:6-7)
- We have faith in the king. We have not seen Him yet, but we believe Him and we love Him. (1 Peter 1:8-9)
- Salvation into which Angels long to look. (1 Peter 1:10-12)
- Prophets pointed us to Jesus – grace – Someone is Coming
- Sufferings of Christ came before the glories to follow. (Thesis Statement)
- Motives and Responses (Imperative) (1 Peter 1:13-25)
- Hope (1 Peter 1:13)
- Motive – Therefore - based on the greatness of the salvation just described
- Response – gird your minds for action (NASB)
- Holiness (1 Peter 1:14-16) As Obedient Children
- Fear (1 Peter 1:17)
- Motive – And if you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each man's work
- Imperative – conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay earth;
- Not to be like the world, to be holy, in fear
- Redemption – a parenthesis (1 Peter 1:18-21)
- Love (1 Peter 1:22-25) Love of brothers based upon love for God and His Message
- Motive – having purified your souls
- Imperative – love one another
- Now this is the word which is preached to you
- Therefore, we should pay attention and obey its teaching
- Where do we place our emphasis – on those things which are passing away or on that which lasts forever.
- Hope (1 Peter 1:13)
Conclusion: "Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build
you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified." (Acts 20:32)
