S.R. Psalm 34:1-22

  1. Does God Listen to Everyone’s Prayers the Same Way?
    1. Something the blind man “knew” (John 9:31) “Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.”
    2. Principle (Psalm 34:8-22)
      1. (1 Peter 3:7-12)
      2. Obviously prayers can be hindered (1 Peter 3:7)
    3. God hears the prayers of the righteous
      1. Psalm 4:1-5; 5:8-12; 11:5-7
    4. Do you notice that there are people that God describes as righteous and others he describes as wicked and rebellious
      1. Have you noticed there is no third category in these psalms?
      2. Jesus followed that pattern (Matthew 7:13-14)
  2. II. Does God Listen to My Prayers?
    1. In some senses God is gracious to all His creation.
      1. (Matthew 5:45)
      2. (Psalm 73) Sometimes the evil prosper and the righteous suffer on earth
    2. (Acts 10:4, 31) Cornelius
    3.  (Matthew 7:7-9)
      1. (Acts 16:14; 11:14) Lydia and Cornelius
  3. Do I View My Communication with God as a Privilege?
    1. How do I view and respond to God’s love letters to me?
      1. Psalm 119:97-104
    2. Do I recognize the great price for access to God’s Throne?
      1. The Son (1 Corinthians 5:21)
      2. The Priest (Hebrews 9:11-12)
      3. My great high priest provides me with confident access to the very throne of God. (Hebrews 4:14-16; 7:25)
      4. He, who has all authority, must be appealed to as the authority.
      5. There were conditions upon which Jesus could occupy this role as King, Priest, Mediator and Intercessor.
        1. 1 Timothy 2:5-6
        2. Colossians 3:16-17
      6. There are conditions we must meet to have access to this “throne of grace”
        1. Heb. 5:7-9
        2. God demands a humble and contrite heart (Psalm 32; 51)
        3. Calling on God without responding with righteous obedience will not avail.
        4. Being right with God is based upon forgiveness. (Psalm 32)
    3. Calling on the Name of the Lord
      1. (Matthew 12:20-21) “20 A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench, Till He sends forth justice to victory; And in His name Gentiles will trust.” “21 In his name the nations will put their hope." (NIV)
      2. (Matthew 18:5-6) “5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. 6 But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”
      3. (Acts 4:12) The “name” represent the person and all the authority connected with the person
    4. The privilege of being children of the Father.
      1. A father is under no obligation to respond favorably to the request of those who are not his children.
      2. (Galatians 4:6) “Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!””
  4. Conclusion: Are you a child of God?
    1. Do you believe that Jesus is the King, the Priest and the Mediator between you and the Father?
    2. Have you obeyed the King?
      1. (John 8:24)
      2. (Mark 16:16)
      3. (Luke 6:46) “Why do you call me Lord, Lord…”
      4. (Matthew 7:21-23) “Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord…”
    3. Are you a “child” of God? (Gal. 3:26-27)
    4. It is a Tragedy to Need the Father’s Help but to have lived like You Didn’t?
